We continue with our theme of “Albion, 100 Years Ago.” May 1, 1922. “Funeral services for the late Emil A. Haeske of Detroit, former Albion resident who died Wednesday at Harper Hospital, were held at his home in Detroit, and burial was in Woodmere Cemetery.”
The Morning Star is in need of carriers and carrierettes (if that’s a word) to deliver copies of this paper on weekends along various routes in Albion. In order to read this column each week, someone has to deliver it to your doorstep.
There aren&pos;t too many Albion businesses that have been around for 100 years or more. Homestead Savings Bank, and Cascarelli’s are a couple of examples. In a short time however, another Albion business will join the ranks of this elite classification: Parks Drug Store.
Albion once had numerous downtown merchants of Greek heritage in the early and mid-20th century. Names like Pete Bournelis, Nick Kavalaris, Nick Kostianes, George and John Liyeos, George Mitchell, John Momtsios, Nick Pappas, Peter Papadopoulos, Samuel Vafiadis, Gus Vervaras, Nick Vournakis, John Yerongtios and others come to mind.
